The customer was experiencing problems with an existing system and required the provision to be able to extract from the bench areas when handling smaller components, but also to be able to exhaust over the full length of the large fabricated sections. These could be in excess of seven or eight metres in length and positioned in the central region of the factory. In combination with this the components could be manufactured from either aluminium or titanium, therefore having two inherent problems, namely the capture and removal of explosive materials when dressing aluminium, but also the handling of sparking and flammable materials such as titanium. As a consequence the two materials could not be mixed in the airstream and therefore, two separate systems were provided. Having six operators within the working area there was a requirement for provision of two separate systems for each of the operators. As a consequence two dedicated systems were provided, each handling a total of 6000 cfm from six multi-position arms. The system ran on a fully open basis where the total plant was exhausting a volume of 12,000 cfm through two independent wet dust arresters. Wet dust arresters were installed within the factory allowing easier operator maintenance and cleaning. |

Given the problems of the extraction at source and over extended
area Dustair Limited were able to utilize standard multi-position arms currently
manufactured by Euromate. These operated to good effect on both the fume
being generated by the processes and also when handling fine dusts. Final
discharges from both systems were directed through a common exhaust fan out
to atmosphere via a vertical discharge stack. Swarf
